The competition subject was a proposal for an artwork that would signal the entrance to the Waltrovka complex. The artwork is intended to reflect the requirements for public outdoor art in a newly developed administrative area, built on the site of a neglected brownfield in Prague 5. It should be realized in situ by the end of April 2024.
As an outdoor piece, the artwork should be robust—durable or even “unbreakable.” The piece is not intended to include any water features. Ideally, and especially given that it will be maintained using the client’s resources, it should contain as few electronic components as possible.
The jury awarded first and second place.
1 – Dušan Zahoranský
2 – Federico Díaz Studio and So Concrete
The jury recommends that the client continue working with Dušan Zahoranský, specifically with the version in which the sculpture remains a standalone object set directly into the terrain without being transformed into a certified playground element.
The jury appreciated the shift in coloration and recommended allowing the sculpture to remain in the original metal color, as the artist preferred. It is also recommended that the version with larger diameter pipes be selected.
