RaumScape: A Unique Piazzetta in Old Town Prague

Questions can be sent to ask@cceamoba.cz with the subject "RIC-Question"

  • Are visual artists allowed to participate? We have a team together with our architect, and I would like to suggest a project individually or in a group.

Visual artists can participate, but you need a licensed architect on your team. Please, see the Competition Conditions, point 3, Participation conditions, and eventually Annex PP.02 Sworn Statement for further details.

  • Should the file “Presentation of the contestant and their portfolio” be bilingual, i.e. in Czech and in English?

Strategically, you can operate with making your presentation more accessible to all the jurors, and create a bilingual document. Nevertheless, technically, only single language of presentation is required (Czech, Slovak, or English).

  • Regarding the format of the portfolio (presentation of reference projects), it is specified in the format (1920x1080) in the competition conditions. Still, the website has a recommended form/template, which is in A3 format. How to understand this?

Corrected (14.5.), the IDML file is now available for download in 1920x1080 format. We are leaving the instruction PDF in A3 format. Although we recommend the 1920x1080 format mentioned by the conditions, where there is more space for the presentation, the A3 format will also be accepted in the competition without any problem.

  • Regarding the PP.01 form, where you are asked to enter the ID, what does this mean?

Basically, it is your company's VAT number or any ID your state gave you as an entrepreneur.

  • If we participate with more than one company, can we add the necessary pages for the other legal representatives when filling out the PP. 02 form?

If there are more of you (legal or natural persons), yes, add the relevant number of pages. Whoever is in PP.01 should submit the relevant pages of PP.02.

  • Do we have to keep the frames that are part of the header and footer of the template document for the presentation, or can we use the page graphics in a different way?

This is just a recommendation. You can conceptualize the graphics in your own way. We will be happy if you stick to the principle of the layout (participant's name on the top right).

  • Is it compulsory or recommended to have a Czech partner? Is it possible to arrange it later?

Foreign contestants do not need a Czech partner to participate in the competition. Your strategy for entering the competition is entirely up to you. Later, you can build your team as the competition advances. Eventually, if you win, a Czech partner will be necessary, e.g., to go through land-use planning and permitting procedures.

  • Twelve teams will be selected based on the submitted applications, followed by an online presentation to the jury, which will then select 5–6 teams to participate in the competition. Will the online presentation focus on the submitted 4-page document, or should it be a broader portfolio presentation of the office?

The online presentation can certainly be broader and may include additional context about the office and its work. It would be appreciated if the presentation starts with or is anchored in the content of the submitted 4-page application, as it serves as the common reference point for the jury.

  • Could you please clarify what is meant by the “technical infrastructure for the underground parking and commercial rental space”. What types of functions are envisioned for this?

Three main parts of the program are meant: vertical communication (stairs and elevator) for the existing underground parking, technology needed for the ventilation of this underground parking, and lastly rental space. Purpose of the rental space is intentionally not specified, meaning that no kind of service, retail, culture or any other function is anticipated yet. The public space will have priority in your designs and their concept will influence the character of the rental space.

  • Do we have to use the current underground parking lot as it is or can we recreate it entirely (including removing the entry and exit ramps)?

It is possible to recreate the whole surface as entry and exit ramps were to be relocated in the Old Town Gate outside from the competition area. The task will be to provide pedestrian access (stairs and elevator) and find space for ventilation technology. Underground parking as a volume will remain unchanged, however its exact form and final number of parking places will emerge in coexistence with the final RaumScape project.

  • I have some difficulties finding the equivalent of the requested licences/authorisations A1, A3 or A0. Could you please clarify which kind of licence are you looking for?

In the Czech context, professional practice is regulated by the Czech Chamber of Architects, which issues different types of licences: A1 refers to architecture, A3 to landscape architecture, and A0 is a general, all-encompassing licence. If you are legally authorised to practice architecture or landscape architecture in your country of residence or professional activity, that is sufficient and corresponds to what we are looking for.

  • Please confirm whether the site visit on 27 June is flexible in case of scheduling conflicts. Is remote participation or rescheduling an option? Also, is attendance mandatory, or could inability to travel to Prague due to visa or financial issues result in disqualification?

Workshop 1 – the site visit on 27 June is fixed and unfortunately cannot be rescheduled. Attendance is not mandatory and won’t affect eligibility, but it is strongly recommended. It doesn’t have to be a partner or team leader—any team member or a local contact is absolutely fine. It’s a valuable opportunity to get a better sense of the task and context on the ground.
