The subject of the competition was the solution of the reconstruction and revitalization of the Slavia Cultural House in České Budějovice - to find an answer to the question of how to approach the operation and architectural design of a historic, listed building, which originally served as a federal house.
From the registered thirty-three teams, the jury selected six participants who "in dialogue" with the jury and the client gradually developed proposals: PLURAL (Bratislava), Ondřej Císler (Prague), 4DS (České Budějovice), Chaix & Morel et associés, CA Pichler, Jan Proksa (Paris, Vienna), KAVA (Prague), PROJECTIL ARCHITECTS (Prague).

Marek Přikryl

Jury Chair

Marek Přikryl received his diploma at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague (2010). In 2013 he completed his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. During his stay abroad he worked in Productora offices in Mexico City and Renzo Piano Building Workshop in Genoa. In 2011 he founded together with architect Martin Prokš atelier Prokš Přikryl architects. Their awardwinning buildings include, for example, the extension of Vrbatova bouda in Vítkovice (2015) and the background of the habitat in Honětice near Kroměříž (2013).

Juraj Thoma

Jury Vice-Chair

Juraj Thoma studied archeology at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. He then joined the Institute of Conservation in České Budějovice as an archaeologist and since 1995 he has worked in the South Bohemian Museum in České Budějovice. In 2002 he became the first deputy mayor and in 2006 to 2014 he was mayor of České Budějovice. Since 2018, he has been the first Deputy Mayor with responsibility for culture, strategic development and spatial planning. He is the author and co-author of several publications in the field of history and archeology.

Stanislav Fiala

Stanislav Fiala studied architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague and at the Academy of Fine Arts (1986). In the 1990s he was a partner at D. A. Studio for ten years and since 1998 at D3A. Since 2009 he has been with Fiala + Nemec. He is the author of extraordinary buildings around the world. The awards include the Devil's Burden Golf Club or MUZO Center - Prague (Finalist of the Mies van der Rohe Award 2001, Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture 2005, Prague City Award 2000, Building of the Year 2000). Recent realizations include the famous Sweerts-Špork Palace and the National Palace in Prague. He was awarded the Architect of the Year 2019 award.

Barbora Hora

Barbora Hora studied architecture at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague under the guidance of prof. akad. Jindřich Smetana. During her studies she took part in an Erasmus internship at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie Amsterdam. In 2014 she became one of the founders of the ORA studio, dealing with the theme of the small town and its context. Their works include for example Štajnhaus – reconstruction of the guest house in Mikulov (2017) or Modrák - reconstruction of the wine cellar in Vrbovec (2011). In 2019, the ORA studio received the highest award in the ARCHITECT + magazine survey within the TOP100 Czech architectural offices.

Jáchym Svoboda

Jáchym Svoboda earned his degree at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague. In 2015, he became one of the founders of Atelier bod architekti, a company dedicated to all types of assignments, from urban concepts, through design of new buildings, to renovations. The latest works by the studio include the design of the Slivinec Polyfunctional House (2019), which won first place in the architectural competition. The winning project in the architectural competition for the reconstruction of the Prague 7 Municipal Authority is coming to an end.

Petr Štěpánek

He graduated from the Secondary School of Electrical Engineering in Písek with a graduation from the Secondary School of Electrical Engineering in Hluboká nad Vltavou. He has long been involved in the construction and reconstruction of buildings. He worked as construction manager at ABStav s.r.o. and as Managing Director for P&P Service s.r.o., then for JSP Group s.r.o. In 2014 he became a representative of the city of České Budějovice.

Daniel Turek

Daniel Turek graduated in Musicology at Masaryk University in Brno. Since 2005 he has been a member of the Cultural Committee of the České Budějovice Council, which he chaired in 2006–2010 and 2015–2018. He is also a member of the Committee for Culture and Tourism of the South Bohemian Region. He has worked in tourism and in the banking sector.

Jan Klein

Jan Klein studied architecture and civil engineering at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at CTU. He is an authorized energy auditor and authorized engineer. He focuses primarily on designing residential buildings, but also development activities. In 2014 he founded his own architectural and design studio - Atelier Klein and in 2019 he founded his own construction company Klein Building. Since 2018 he has been a representative of the town of České Budějovice and became a co-founder of the Clean Budweiss movement.

Šimon Heller

Šimon Heller studied mathematics and geography at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. He worked as a teacher at a primary school in Kaplice, as an assistant to a deputy of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, and then as a teacher at a grammar school in Třeboň. Since 2014 he has been a member of the Transport Committee of the City Council of České Budějovice and since 2019 a member of the City Council of České Budějovice and Chairman of the Finance Committee of the City Council of České Budějovice.

Ivan Nadberežný

Ivan Nadberežný graduated in 1981 from the Faculty of Journalism, Charles University in Prague. He worked for 21 years in the Czech News Agency, the army press and in the Jihočeská pravda daily. Since 1990 he has been working in the field of publishing. He is the representative of the city of České Budějovice for the eighth parliamentary term. He was also a representative of South Bohemian region for two terms. He took part in the work of the Territorial and Control Committees, the Commission for Architecture and Urban Planning, the South Bohemian Committee for innovation and he was also member of committees for the implementation of the city's investments.

Jan Piskač

Jan Piskač graduated from the Theater Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (2001). He is a teacher of speech and rhetoric, creative writing and public performance, a writer, translator, comedian and singer. He worked at the Lycée Carnot Dijon in France, at Boomerang Theater Company Cork in Ireland, TeaK Helsinki in Finland and at Dom mladih in Split, Croatia. He is a member of the City Council of České Budějovice.
