Design of the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Totalitarianism in the former prison in Uherské Hradiště. The goal is to create a powerful space of memory that tells the story of oppression and democracy through human fates.

The competition seeks proposals for the design of a permanent exhibition for the Museum of Totalitarianism, which will be located in a former prison wing. The main exhibit will be the building itself—a silent witness to the persecution and suffering of political prisoners under both Nazi and Communist regimes. The exhibition is intended to document the mechanisms of oppression, the destinies of its victims, and the shifting notions of justice across totalitarian regimes, with a strong emphasis on personal stories and human experience.
The competition focuses on the design of an exhibition covering approximately 1,700 m², integrating architectural, artistic, and technical elements into a cohesive and impactful whole. The project should demonstrate innovative and sensitive treatment of both space and content, offering visitors an engaging journey through the subject matter. The final exhibition should incorporate contemporary exhibition technologies and offer diverse forms of storytelling—from physical artifacts to audiovisual media.
The museum is envisioned as a living institution that reflects the values of freedom and democracy. Its opening is scheduled for the end of 2029.
