MMM

The SuperMost project, prepared by CCEA MOBA in cooperation with the city of Most, focuses on the future of the city, particularly the center. The goal is to create a modern, lively, accessible, and welcoming city where people can live, work, and meet– a city that will function not only economically and ecologically, but also socially. Most has a unique history– in the 1960s, the city was relocated due to the expansion of coal mining. The destruction of the old city of Most took place from 1965-1985 while the new city was built simultaneously starting in the 1970s. This history, though complicated, gives way for a unique opportunity for Most to move forward as a progressive city of the 21st century.

Three international architectural competitions, or more precisely competitive dialogues, took place over the course of 2025. Developed in close cooperation with the public through questionnaires, workshops, and meetings, the common goal was to find out what people in Most want, what activities they feel are missing in the city center, and what values they believe the new city of Most should reflect.

MM1 SuperMost – SuperCentrum: Revitalization of the city center
The largest of the three competition dialogues will focus on the overall revitalization of the center. We are looking for a team of architects and urban planners who, in cooperation with the city, will design a concept for a new center—from the urban framework to specific proposals for public spaces. The aim is not only to improve the physical environment, but also to bring life, community, and creative energy back to the center. The center will become an engine of change and an attraction for new residents and professional diversity.

MM2 SuperMost – SuperRadnice: Artistic intervention in the municipal building
This competition dialogue focuses on the entrance to the municipal office and the design of a work of art for its façade, with an emphasis on the original mosaic design on the attic. The aim is to interpret the removed mosaic in a contemporary way and to reintroduce an element of visual identity and symbolic value into the public building. The new intervention should not only be aesthetic, but above all comprehensible and accessible to the general public. At the same time, it will become a symbol of open and contemporary communication between the city and the public.

MM3 SuperMost – SuperPrior: New use for a department store
Opened in 1976 as the city's main shopping center, Prior has the potential to become a new community and cultural hub. The city, which is its current owner, plans to transform it into a lively place for meetings, education, culture, and other functions beneficial to local residents. During the project preparation, Prior will become a venue for public discussions, presentations, and a testing ground for its future use. Prior will be the starting point and venue/stage for the transformation of the city of Most.

July 2025 Questionnaire

In July 2025, we conducted survey to gather information about the quality of life, civic amenities, and services in Most. A total of 582 completed questionnaires were submitted. The questions focused on two areas: firstly, an assessment of the quality of the city and its center, and secondly, the desired features and functions of the city center and the former Prior department store.
The evaluation shows that respondents have noticed positive changes in the city's development in recent years. The architectural and urbanistic legacy of the new Most is mostly seen as something that should be preserved and developed. The city center is characterized by its airiness, spaciousness, and clarity. However, the downside is the lack of elements that can be used year-round. In proposals for revitalizing the center and the former Prior department store, some respondents focused primarily on adding elements that could be used on a daily basis, such as small restaurants connected to a cultural program, shops, and services.
However, overall satisfaction with life in the city is mainly influenced by elements outside the center, such as new recreational and leisure opportunities at the lakes and surrounding areas. The revitalization of the Střed and Šibenik parks, which offer attractive leisure activities, is highly rated.
